YELLOW

RED

PINK
This colour embodies the gentler qualities of Red, symbolizing love and affection without passion. Pink desires protection, special treatment, and a sheltered life. Pink people require affection and like to feel loved and secure, perhaps wanting to appear delicate and fragile. Pink people tend to be charming and gentle, if a trifle indefinite.
ORANGE
This colour of luxury and pleasure appeals to the flamboyant and fun-loving person who likes a lively social round. Orange people may be inclined to dramatize a bit, and people notice them, but they are generally good-natured and popular. is becoming a wireless, digital, computer orient society.
I. a) Translate the words and

II. Read
the text and complete the sentences.
According to a
recent report, people in Britain spend more time texting then those in most
other European countries. There are 60 million in Britain, but over 70 million
mobile phones in use. And these phones send 11 million texts an hour!
Most people now
understand the language of texting – or SMS language – with its numbers and
missing letters. It is easier than writing whole words, and it saves time. Many
people think this will be bad for the English language, but research shows that
young people can still spell properly when they need to.
27-year-old Melissa
Thompson from Manchester in Britain said she was feeling ‘gr8’ when she became
the world’s fastest texter. The new champion beat the previous record by almost
10 seconds. She had to write, ‘The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera
Serrasaimus and Pysgocentrus at the most ferocious freshwater fish in the
world. In reality they seldom attack a human.’ It only took her 25,94 seconds.
And as you can see, there is no SMS language in those two sentences. Try it
yourself and see how quickly you can do it!
III.
After-reading activity. Read the text and say if the following sentences are true or false.
1. There are more mobile
phones in Britain than people.
2. People use SMS language to save
time.
3. Some adults worry that SMS
language isn’t good for spelling.
4. Melissa Thompson was 10
seconds slower than the previous champion.
5. She used SMS language during the competition.

Reading
Read the text given below. Decide if the
statements are T (True) or F (False).
Dear Mom and Dad,
This is my fifth day at the summer
camp. Life in the great outdoors isn’t exactly what I have expected, but I’m
not starving ... yet ... so don’t worry about me.
I guess I should tell you about what I
do every day. First, everyone has to get up at 5:30 A.M. They have this silly
old rooster named Harry who loves to wake us up. Next, we have to make our beds
and tidy up the cabin before our camp counselor, Jeff, comes to inspect the
place.
Then, we have breakfast around 6:30
A.M. After that, we have some free time, so I’ve been going down to the nearby
stream to fish for a couple of hours. But yesterday, the only thing I caught
was an old shoe and a tree branch. Great catch, Huh? Then when I was trying to
swat a mosquito buzzing around my head, I slipped and fell in the stream and
lost my fishing pole. That ended my fishing career.
Well, in the afternoon, there are
different activities we can choose from like archery, horseback riding, and
hiking. I thought archery would be the sport for me until I shot an arrow
through Jeff’s pant leg. As you can imagine, I haven’t been invited back since.
In the evening, everyone is assigned a
different chore to get dinner ready. Yesterday, I was in charge of cooking the
hotdogs, but I accidentally dropped them in the fire, so we had to settle for
beans instead. The other kids are always razzing me about it.
At night, we sit around a campfire in
front of the cabin, sing songs, and tell ghost stories. That’s usually fun, but
one night while trying to find more sticks for the fire, I got all turned
around and got lost. After about an hour of wandering aimlessly in the forest,
I finally found my way back, but no one seemed to have realized what had
happened, thinking that I just had gone to bed. A bear or wolf could have eaten
me and no one would have known it. I was so beat I just crashed ... out like a
light.
Well, today is another day and tomorrow
I go home ... and not a bit too soon. I’ve learned that camping is just not for
me.
Love,
Brad.

6. Children should take pieces of paper hanging on the Christmas tree and make a Christmas poem out of them.
I love Christmas for many things
Trees, candles, angle wings,
Stars in the heavens,
Snow covered hills,
Little toy trains,
Dolls in their frills.
I love Christmas, ribbons of gold,
Familiar carols, so very old.
Sweet candy canes, bright red sleds,
Little ones tucked snug in their beds.
I love Christmas but most of all
I look forward to a neighbor’s call
A friendly chat, a cup of tea
Love in the homes means Christmas to me.
7. Let’ sing a wonderful Christmas song:
Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
Over the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring,
making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight, O
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh (repeat)
A day or two ago,
I thought I'd take a ride,
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upset’s
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
o What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh. (repeat)
A day or two ago,
the story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there
I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away, O
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
o What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh. (repeat)
Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead, O
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
o What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
Доброго дня, шановні восьмикласники!
Read the text and choose the titles. There is one choice you do not need to use.
1. Teenagers’ Interests
2. Do Teenagers Have Problems?
3. Typical American Teenagers.
4. Are Teenagers a Problem?
5. What is a Teenager?
2. Do Teenagers Have Problems?
3. Typical American Teenagers.
4. Are Teenagers a Problem?
5. What is a Teenager?
A. Officially, a
teenager is anyone aged from 13 to 19 inclusively, but most people would
probably think first of the younger age group and exclude 18 and 19-year-olds.
After all, once you reach 18 you can vote, get married without your parents’
permission, and join the army. On the other hand, children are growing up and
developing more quickly, and these days 11 and 12-year-olds would like to
include themselves in the ‘teenager’ group.
B. According to
‘the older generation’, teenagers are lazy, they wear ridiculous clothes, and
are appallingly rude to their betters and elders; they find it impossible to be
polite, helpful, constructive, caring or hard-working. What’s more, they spend
all their time listening to awful music and watching unsuitable films.
C. Teenagers are
human so, of course, they have problems. It is a difficult time for them
because it is a period of transformation. It isn’t quite as bad as a chrysalis
changing into a butterfly, but it may seem like that. It isn’t easy to grow up,
and the dramatic physical and emotional changes are often confusing and
worrying.
D. Typical
American teenagers are in fact very ordinary. They think their teachers make
them work too hard; they love their parents, but are sure they don’t understand
anything; and their friendships are the most important things in their lives.
Some of them do have a lot of money to spend, but usually they have earned it
themselves.
